Choosing a model
Match the model and reasoning level to the kind of work you are doing.

Select a model
Connect a provider first. In a session, click the current model name beneath the prompt composer and choose an available model. Confirm the selection before sending a request.
Different providers can offer similar model names with different access rules. The connection you select determines which provider handles the request.
Choose for the task
For a small explanation or edit, a fast model can be enough. For difficult debugging or a complex plan, choose a model with stronger reasoning capabilities. For image context, choose one that supports images.
Availability, context limits, and pricing depend on the connected provider. Check that provider’s model information rather than assuming a model is included because its name appears in a picker.
Reasoning effort
Some models expose a reasoning or thinking-effort control. Use it when offered for the selected model. Higher effort can increase latency and usage; it does not guarantee a correct answer. Other models do not provide this setting.
Change one variable at a time while investigating quality problems: simplify the prompt, check context, then compare another model if needed.
Missing or unavailable models
Open Settings → Models to check model visibility, then verify the provider is connected. A model may require separate provider access or a funded account. If a request is rejected, read the provider error and choose a model your account can use.
